A Lamp Unto My Feet

“Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding
in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.”
– Proverbs 3:5

I’ve been praying lately for lighted paths in my life. We live in a society where there are so many choices and paths we can take for almost any area of life… it can get absolutely overwhelming at times! Trying to figure out the way we should go can become a full time job, full of stress, wasted money, trial and error, and heartache. “A man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” – Proverbs 16:9

There are times when I have asked the LORD why we have had to go through certain trying times that require critical decisions to be made.  But the answer is always the same… it keeps us at His feet, dependent solely on His strength, seeking His will and His way through each and every turn.

Letting the Holy Spirit be our teacher is one of the most important things we can learn as believers. I think the hardest part of listening for His voice can be finding the time to quiet ourselves before Him and wait. But when we do, the reward is great! His way is always the way of peace and rest. He leads us gently, the Word says, like a shepherd leads his flock… and His sheep, they know His voice. Now more than ever there are so many voices bombarding us in this world. We need to carve out that precious time to quiet our heart and mind before Him, and ask Him what HIS way is. Then when He lights the path for us, and makes apparent what His direction is, the peace of God floods our heart and brings the comfort we’ve been so needing. It silences the other voices bombarding us, and there truly is only one way. He gives us the answer that we needed, and the storm is calmed.

So the words that I keep speaking to the Lord when I have a decision to make lately is, “Okay, LORD, I need You to light my path. Make it so clear to me the way and direction I should go on this.” He has been so faithful lately to answer this prayer. Of course we always want to make the best decisions for our life, but what we really need to determine is what is God’s best for our life. And He will answer us.
